The National Afternoon Tea week is in full swing and the smell of freshly baked scones and Earl Grey is in the air. I was very privileged to be invited for afternoon tea for two at one of the best places in Manchester – Opus One bar and restaurant inside the Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel on Peter Street . The place is an “oasis” of luxurious tranquility and elegance in a theatrical style of Manhattan lounge bars of the 1920’s where the red walls and lights make a dramatic contrast to the black furniture and antique gold wall coverings.
A very friendly yet professional waitress accompanied us to our impeccably set table and our tasteful journey to the World of Afternoon Tea began! It was magical to watch the world pass by through ” floor to ceiling”windows while sipping our champagne in anticipation of the “main act” of this beautiful “ritual”. The Afternoon Tea menu consisted of two main options – Traditional Afternoon Tea and Gentlemen’s Afternoon Tea: although the second option was incredibly attractive due to its unusual for an afternoon tea combination of savoury “miniatures” we opted for a traditional “cake”- orientated menu ( but what a difficult decision it was!)
Traditional Afternoon tea
Tea of your choice
A selection of Finger sandwiches
Delicious mini cakes
Freshly Baked Scones
Served with Clotted cream and preserves
And Gentlemen’s Afternoon tea
Tea of your Choice
Mini hot Yorkshire pudding
Warm pork pie, mini fish and chips
A selection of rustic sandwiches
Freshly baked homemade scones
Served with clotted cream and preserves
You can also ” glamorise” your afternoon tea session by adding a glass of Champagne or Aperol Spritz to either option
I can declare with confidence that the portions served were much more generous comparing with other tea rooms and restaurants that I visited before. The scones were to die for – so fresh and soft that they melted in the mouth; a perfectly balanced selection of the finger sandwiches impressed with its ” award-deserving”fillings and amazingly tasty bread, not to mention a state-of-the-art assortment of the mini cakes including the Aperol Spritz Jelly worthy to be served at the Buckingham Palace! Both the taste of the food and its presentation were superb, the tea was of the highest quality and the service was exemplary – 5 stars all the way! Please see my yummy pictures below:).
Radisson Blue Opus One Restaurant is a unique place where style, tradition and luxury are merged in a perfect amalgam, it is now at the top of my list of the places where I would go for an occasional romantic indulgence as well as bring my numerous international friends for an afternoon tea or a glamorous cocktail evening.
