If you’v been reading my blog long enough, then you’ll know how much I love blazers (you can re-read my older posts here and here ) Today I want to make a point about rediscovering your wardrobe, instead of running to the store and purchasing new oversized, log sleeve blazers, you can easily recycle your classic ones, by adding just little touches you can transform your old check blazer into something trendy.
You may already know that over the last decade, clothing has become the fastest growing stream of waste in the UK, and it now represents the fifth biggest environmental footprint of any industry in the UK leading many fashion industry icons to stand up against “fast fashion”. My favourite British designer Vivienne Westwood has made a plea to the public to buy fewer and better quality clothes: “Buy less. Choose well. Make it last. Quality, not quantity” And since last year I decided to live by this mantra! Now before buying a new piece I’m thinking strategically – will I be able to use it more than once and if so how versatile it is? If I can picture myself wearing it as a part of different outfits then I rush to the till and get it!
There are also other ways to help the planet and recycle such as swapping your unwanted clothes for vouchers (you can do it in many high street shops including H&M, Marks & Spenser and Zara) or just donating your unwanted items to the textile banks. I hope by spreading the word about clothing recycling I am sending some important message to my readers making them think twice before indulging in just another fast fashion shopping session.
