In my today’s post I want to talk about my recent visit to Sheffield. I and my fellow bloggers were kindly invited by the team of Mercure Hotels to discover what Sheffield have to offer. Although I’ve been living in England for 12 years and have seen pretty much all major cities and towns in the North West, I have actually never been to Sheffield, and I was pleasantly surprised at what a friendly, cultural and green city it is.
Our morning started with a breakfast served to my spacious and comfortable room and the food was glorious: porridge, eggs & orange juice were all super fresh and delicious. Mercure Sheffield St. Paul’s Hotel & Spa is located right in the heart of Sheffield city centre and offers beautiful panoramic views over the city so it was a perfect starting point for our tour. At 11 o’clock all the bloggers have gathered in the lobby and full of excitement we went to explore Sheffield
First stop was the Town Hall ( literally on the doorstep of the hotel), just like Hollywood Sheffield has its own Walk of Fame to honouring famous people from or connected to the city, fun right? The stunning Sheffield Cathedral is less than 5 minutes walk from the Town Hall and it is the oldest building to still be used and has been a focal point of the city centre for over 1000 years!
Then we walked through a very popular amongst students district full of independent cafes, bars and vintage shops, one of which was Cow, my favourite vintage store, filled with rails of flamboyant and quirky clothing .
We finished out tour back at the hotel where we had an afternoon tea followed by a visit to the famous Winter Garden which is truly unique. Being a home to more than 2500 different plants , it’s the largest urban glasshouse anywhere in Europe and the city’s most cherished architectural building. The garden is designed perfectly , no matter how bad the weather outside is, the microclimate inside is always ideal for both plants and visitors (making it a perfect place for bloggers to take OOTD pictures 🙂
I had a lovely weekend in Sheffield and I can’t wait to be back . X
